My definition of interaction is the process of “communication” happens between human and objectives that influence one another. To be specific, it involves the transformation as well as the exchange of the information between one another which leads to changes and alterations that influence both sides.
I have experienced one interaction project which involves the installation of sound and light. It is quite similar to the “160” project made by TETRO. Users are able to control the light of the model which is similar to a tunnel made by LEDs by touching the buttons on the control screen. The touch on the screen leads to the change in lights which can be seen by the user. As what I have defined at the very beginning, this exchange of information between the user and the project can be called “interaction”.
#My Final Project: Dream
My project is based on the idea of Dream which aims at letting the users experience the feeling of surprise, lost and fear involved during the process of chasing the dream by presenting the project in the form of immersive interactive experience and encourage them to not give up on their dreams.
I made a prototype for my project using tinkercad. As the picture above, the project is placed inside a dark room. When users got into the room they will stand at the starting point A with is a broad white platform whose margin will be labeled by LEDs. The six cylinders in front of the platform A are also platforms with different heights. The platforms that are farther away from platform A are higher while the nearest platform is a bit lower than the platform A. The 8 sticks hanging beside the six cylinders are 8 huge swings make up with LEDs which each represents a note in a musical scale. The space left in the room will be filled with white balloons, under which are covered with LEDs are well. But the light of these is weak.
Users can light up the next swing which will lead him/her to the next platform by choosing the right note on the computer on each platform. The swing will arrive at the same level as the platform which symbols the steers at the same time when it is lightened up. The 8th swing will be light up in the darkness at the beginning which symbols the dream. The white balloons create a sense of calm and relax. Users might fear the darkness at first but will be surprised by beautiful balloons and swings which are the result of having the courage to go on. Using a piano music as the background music can calm users down.
The project will occupy a big dark room with no external light. It will be ideally placed in an exhibition considering its content. To ensure the accuracy of the effects, processing will be used to send messages from the computer to the Arduino which connects to the LEDs and motors that control the movement of the swings.
The reason I design my final project in this way is that I want to challenge my further belief that processing and Arduino can be used in small projects. I want to challenge myself by prolonging and enhancing the user experience to create an immersive experience for the users which has a meaning that can bring energy to their lives.
The inspiration of balloons comes from “Snarkitecture’s Million Ball Beach”.
The inspiration of light and sound comes from the user experience I mentioned above as well as the “160” project made by TETRO since it is also used in those projects. But instead of using it directly, I add the change of movement in order to enhance the interaction with the users.
