A burkini or burqini is a type of swimsuit for women designed to allow women to go swimming in accordance with Islamic traditions of modest dress. Several mayors of French cities banned the swimsuit citing possible fears of links to Islamic extremism. The ban has been recently suspended by France’s highest court.
